Q: How do I register?

A: Online preregistration closes on 08.09.2011.  Registration will be available during packet pickup on Monday, August 15 from 4:30 - 6:30PM OR on race day Tuesday, August 16 from 3:30 - 5:30PM.

Q: What is the cost?

A: We have done our best to price this race so that it is affordable to everyone.  Discounts are given to those that preregister.  All youth races are free.  Registrants will NOT be charged any additional fee by registering online (most races do not absorb this cost).  All 2011 fees remain unchanged from 2010, also listed on the online registration page, are as follows (PreReg/RaceDay):

Run: $16.00/$20.00;  Youth: FREE*

* Note: Only Preregistered youth participants will receive t-shirts.

Q: Why is preregistration only available online?

A: There are two reasons preregistration is only available online.  First, we would like to eliminate the additional printing and paper waste associated with the printed registrations (we are an Active.com "Go Green" event).  Invariably, 50 to 75% of all paper registrations printed end up in the recycling (or worse, garbage) bin.  Second, eliminating the additional printing allows us to reduce our expenses slightly, keeping participant registration fees lower.

Q: What does the registration include?

A: All participants will receive a high-quality t-shirt (unless they opt-out of a shirt for a discount), a race packet stuffed with valuable  goodies & information, post-race recovery food & drink (in addition to the food available to all attending), the ability to win custom overall and age group awards, and a memorable experience.

Q: Why 5.1k?

A: To make people ask the question!  We could have just as easily set the distance to 5k, but feel we want to exceed participant expectations in every way.  We are the least expensive race in this class and include chip timing, great t-shirts, activities for the entire family, and food!

Q: What is chip timing?

A: Timing chips are devices racers attach to their shoes to expedite race results and insure the best accuracy.  There is a significant cost when adding chip timing, which is why races usually end up being very expensive or skipping chip timing.  To our knowledge, there is no other chip-timed event with online registration that is less expensive than the Festival 5.1k.

Q: What makes you an Active.com "Go Green" event?

A: We are conscientious about how we steward the resources to put on this race.  A few examples include:

  • All preregistration is done online (No printed preregistration)
  • Utilizing 100% recycled media for our printed posters
  • Reusing volunteer race shirts in lieu of entirely new ones when possible
  • Offering a "no shirt" option for participants
  • No plastic water bottles in our event
  • All plates & cups are paper and will be composted
  • Race packets utilize paper rather than plastic
  • Course lead is a biker, not a motorized vehicle
  • Much, much more...

Q: I see that you are accepting donations for the food shelf...do I need to bring one to enjoy the post-race meal?

A: No. Food shelf donations are completely voluntary.  We simply wanted to bless those in need and thought the race may afford a great opportunity to do just that.
